Ghostbusters Halloween Build

Halloween is here again.  My son is now 3 and he's a huge Ghostbusters fan, so this years costume choice is obvious.

My challenge: to create the most authentic 60% scale proton pack ever seen.

I started by searching the internet, I found a few well made proton pack 3d models on Thingiverse.  Some modifications and improvements were needed to end up with all the 3d printable parts.

Broken down to printable parts:

Since this is 60% scale I can't just buy an alice pack frame to attach it to, so I had to model and print that too:

Oh, and we need some ecto goggles:

Don't forget the ghost trap:

Trap broken down for printing:

There's also the leg hose thingy that attaches to the leg of the costume:

After MANY days of printing, and many more nights of detailing and adding lights and a sound system.  Here is the result:

In many ways building a 60% scale pack is more difficult than a full scale, I couldn't just use the off the shelf hardware the original prop makers used as it was too big, so there was a lot more custom printing and improvisation.

The googles turned out pretty cool as well:

Grandma sewed my son an amazing Ghostbusters jumpsuit:

The switches on the gun attachment control SoundFX and music.  The proton pack has an amplifier and speakers.

The ghost trap:

Of course Mom and Dad had to have matching costumes, I custom made the stay puft mask and collar--the inflatable body suit was store bought:

 Here's a video of my son's costume:
